This is an extremely hot and ornamental chilli plant that originates in Japan. It obviously gets its name from the likeness of its bright red upright pods that grow in upright clusters to the popular Christmas flowering houseplant.

Plants are quite large, growing between 75cm to 1m in optimum conditions but also do quite well out on the patio too.
This pepper is an edible ornamental variety. The long thin 3in fruits which resemble an eagles claw, grow upright in clusters on a compact plant forming a dramatic display. They matures from light green to a range of reds (90 days). The peppers have a very intriguing hot flavour, eaten fresh or dried for hot pepper powder and flakes. Also know as Japanese hot claw and very similar - if not the same as 'Takanotsume'.
